“The current energy transition (pun intended) is one of the largest and most complex collective undertakings humanity has ever been tasked with. I want to help us directly improve peoples’ lives by expanding energy access and reduce the harmful impacts associated with historical energy practices. It is an awe-inspiring project to contribute to and it attracts some of the most passionate and compassionate people I have met.
At CEG, I’ve massively skilled up on navigating the electricity regulatory processes at the state and U.S. federal level, much more than what I could have gotten in a classroom or even working on a single jurisdiction. I’ve interfaced with folks in utilities, governments, and national labs to exchange ideas and move electricity system planning and evaluation forward. I’m meaningfully expanding both my individual contributions and project management as time goes on. At any given point I may be working on expert testimonies for regulatory commission dockets, research white papers, or analytical projects for the next evolution of electricity planning. This mix of work keeps me constantly learning.
Working with the Vermont utility Green Mountain Power on their resilience planning was full circle for me, since their Zero Outages Initiative inspired parts of my PhD research. At CEG, I helped GMP identify the best mechanisms to increase resilience for all customers through a forward‑looking, incremental benefit‑cost analysis. I got to work with team members at both CEG and GMP to integrate utility cost savings with a monetized customer resilience framework using national lab tools, feeder‑level outage data, mitigation effectiveness scoring, and lifecycle financial modeling. It was a cross-cutting project that let me contribute my expertise in distribution system planning to help real people keep their lights on
This work at CEG has given me a real-world forum to apply and grow the skills that I’ve built up over the years, to influence decision-making at the highest levels of multiple U.S. electricity systems. The team here is constantly picking up new and more interesting projects, and CEG’s work aligns with my own vision for what the future of energy should be.
The company culture is warm and supportive, which makes the all-remote setup both a blessing and a curse; we get great people from all over, but I’m sad I can’t hang out with them in person more often! Luckily there are plenty of chances for both personal and casual interactions built into our days.”
