“When I joined CEG following my graduation in the summer of 2024, I knew I cared about issues like the energy transition and climate change, but I was still figuring out where I wanted to take my career in the space. The team here is relatively small and dynamic compared to other firms in the space, which has given me the opportunity to engage on these big-picture problems across technical, economic, and policy sides in ways I wouldn’t have expected. That breadth of exposure has been invaluable early in my career. It gave me a wide view of the industry while also helping me find a specific area, in my case, Power System Planning, where I could really focus my development. Within about a year and a half, I was promoted to Senior Analyst, which felt like a reflection not just of my professional growth, but of how much this team invests in the people here.
What’s kept me here is a combination of the work and the people. On the Power System Planning team, I get to go deep on big questions surrounding our evolving grid, but the broader exposure across the energy and environmental economics and policy landscape has helped me figure out what I find most interesting and where I want to grow. One project I’m particularly proud of is an economic analysis we produced for the Sierra Club on PacifiCorp’s clean energy transition in Utah and Wyoming. Drawing on technical modeling and economic analysis, we were able to quantify that by embracing renewables instead of deferring them, these states can generate 18,000 additional job-years relative to a coal-dominant alternative, results that carry real weight in ongoing utility planning debates. The people here have a lot to do with that, too. There’s no shortage of big ideas and thought leadership at CEG, and what I’ve appreciated most is that it’s paired with a real pragmatism.”
