This analysis compares Colorado’s electric rates to national rate trends identifying key factors that have driven rate increases both on a state and national level.

While residential electric rates have increased in Colorado, the increases have not been evenly distributed across utilities. To assess trends within the state, Current Energy Group examined average residential rates for three Colorado utilities—Xcel Energy, Black Hills Energy, and Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU)—and benchmarked these rate trends against other similar utilities in the region.
