Prepared for Solar United Neighbors (SUN), “Value of Distributed Energy Resources in Virginia” found that a distributed energy resource (DER) portfolio, including rooftop and shared solar, distributed power plants, and other community energy solutions, can help meet Virginia’s future energy needs and save +$288 million in annual net savings when compared to more traditional fossil fuel alternatives.
SUN, Southern Environmental Law Center, and CEG held a virtual briefing to cover the report’s main findings, breaking down:
- Qualitative and quantitative benefits of DERs
- An achievable DER portfolio, including an expanded Virtual Power Plant program
- Cost-effectiveness tests to compare DERs to traditional supply-side resources
